Asus is well known in the tech industry to try out new and innovative designs and Asus Zenbook Pro Duo is simply following the trend. Just like the Zenfone 6 tried something new with its rotating camera system, the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo tries to bring two screens to one laptop. Here are some of the details about the crazy yet incredibly attractive Asus Zenbook Pro Duo you need to know:
The Dual Screens
One of the first things you’ll notice about the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo is its dual screens. That’s right, the laptop has two screens and both are 4K panels, we are only counting the horizontal pixels here but still, that’s impressive. The main display is the usual flagship affair, a 4K, 15-inch panel with 16:9 aspect ratio and OLED nature. The fun starts when you look down a bit and spot the 32:9 secondary screen that is IPS in nature. It is situated directly above the keyboard and is very easy to access. The concept is not exactly new, we saw Asus try that with the screen based touchpad a while ago and we all are aware of the MacBook Pro and its touch bar.
Asus Zenbook Pro Duo Design
Asus pulled some technical wizardry and placed the second screen in such a way that it doesn’t take anything away from the design. Sure, the battery is going to suffer a bit because of that extra screen real estate. However, there is still a full-size keyboard on the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo. It even has a full row of function keys. As the keyboard had to be pushed down, the trackpad is moved to the right and it can act as a number pad when needed. It’s not a perfect solution but it works well for the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo. This basically means the second screen on the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo is not borderline useless as the one found on Apple’s MacBook Pros.
The rest of the laptop is just as solidly built as you’d expect a top of the line laptop to be. There are for far-field microphones integrated into the laptop and work great with Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s own Cortana. There is even a blue light at the bottom that shines whenever you give voice commands, a nice touch that gives visual feedback.
Usability of Zenbook Pro Duo
Asus is playing it really smart, they have built-in software that makes the second screen invaluable for many power users. You can use both panels as one full monitor, split them both into two separate screens and even place two instances of a single software on them both. For example, you can play a Youtube video on the smaller screen while you type in an article. It also comes with a touch screen and pen capabilities so the possibilities are nearly endless. We did notice the screens looked a bit different on the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo review unit.
If you are already amazed by the versatility. The Asus Zenbook Pro Duo offers a lot not only in terms of extra screen real estate but also in good specs. No matter what you use your laptop, the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo certainly has something for everyone. Prices will be announced soon and we will update the article to reflect them. For now, you can download this great app and spend your time having fun.
What do you think of the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo? Is it just a gimmick or will it become industry standard?
